NBAA-Bass Fishing National Championship Tournament at Carrollton, Kentucky Ohio RIverNBAA ANOUNCES 2007 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SITE

Ohio River at Carrollton, Kentucky to Host Event!

Here’s the announcement everyone is waiting for! NBAA will host the 2007 National Championship on the Ohio River, hosted by the City of Carrollton, Kentucky in the spring of 2008. This fantastic spring fishery has been host to several top events including FLW, BASS, BFL and several others and is near the famous Tanners Creek in Kentucky.

“We are very excited about bringing our National Championship to the Ohio River,” said Jack Horning, National Director for NBAA “The Ohio River keeps showing up time and again on our angler surveys and we’re especially excited about having the host site at Carrollton. The community is behind this 110% and we’re confident our anglers will be, too”

The event is tentatively scheduled for mid May to hit the peak fishing on this stretch of the river. Carrolton, Kentucky will be the host community and a list of area accommodations will be available soon. The city is located about an hour southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio. For reference, drive time is about 5 hours from the Michigan border.

“We made a commitment this year to try to find a Championship location that would be new to nearly all of our anglers in order to even the playing field. With well over 100 divisions spread across the Midwest, that was a tall order,” says NBAA Executive Director Jim Sprague. “For this reason, several anglers suggested this area. While the river has a reputation of being a challenging fishery, we have reports from mid May of 100 boat tournaments weighing over 450 fish with bags over 15 pounds. Another important factor is travel, and this location is about the same distance as Houghton Lake for most of our members.”

“Another goal for our staff was to get the site announced in time for anglers to learn the body of water and maybe even make a trip to look things over”, added Sprague. “We realize that our National Championship is a very important goal for thousands of bass anglers. We’ve provided a neutral site, a great host community, a great fishery and over a year to plan how to win THREE Skeeter Boats.”

The Ohio river at Carrollton is the latest in a wide variety of fisheries that the NBAA National Championship has been held on. Over the past several years, these tournaments have been held at Chautauqua, NY; Houghton Lake, MI; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, KY; Old Hickory, TN, and Manistee, MI. Sites for the 2008 season are being discussed at this time. As always, NBAA welcomes input from member anglers for suggested sites.
